This is the our Christmas News Letter for 2011...

2011 has been a year of ups and downs for the Ludlow Family. We lost our family patriarch this year - Marv's father died at the age of 97, however, his funeral was a celebration of a life well lived. Most of the Ludlow's gathered in Salt Lake City to pay their respects. It was a time of reunion and bonding with relatives. Marv's mother is still living in SLC but she misses Dad a lot.

*We also lost our backyard swimming pool. We have enjoyed that pool for 28 years. It was damaged in a severe storm in May. We decided that it was time to fill it in. Our Grandchildren were mad at us, but we now have a touch football field and badminton court in our backyard. Marv does not miss cleaning the pool every day in the summer.

*Karen and Marv continue to serve in the Winter Quarters Temple. They logged ten years of temple service this year.

*Teaghan, John's oldest daughter who has been in school in Utah, announced that she is going to be married next April. She is going to marry Tyler Turman of Indiana. Marv will be the sealer for their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. She will be our first Grandchild to get married.

*We are grateful that our family is doing well. Our children are all well employed and our 12 grandchildren are healthy and dong well in church and school. God has blessed us with a good life. We are also grateful for this holiday season. This is a fun and exciting time of the year. We are also mindful of the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We hope this letter finds you happy and prosperous.

For New Years Eve, some of the children and grandchildren came over for a picnic in our family room. We roasted hot dogs in the fireplace and ended with roasted marshmallows and s'mores.

We went to Salt Lake City the end of Sept. to visit and help my parents. We drove into the canyons while there and saw the Fall foliage. The colors were better than I have seen in years. We joined the old folk's bus tour over the Alpine loop. We also drove up Big Cottonwood and Mill Creek canyons.

We travelled to the Black Hills of South Dakota with Jim, LeAnna and Austin in May.
Mount Rushmore is the main attraction, but we enjoyed the mountains, the lakes, and the wild life (Animals) that we saw every where.

We took a seven day Cruise on the "Liberty of the Sea", the largest Cruise ship in the World.
We left from the port of Miami and circled Cuba. We covered about 2500 miles and visited several Caribbean Islands. We had lots to do on the ship. On board were many amenities including, four swimming pools, several hot tubs, running track, exercise gym, basketball court, a climbing wall, mini golf, table tennis, a Florider for on board surfing, a health spa, many shops and stores, an ice skating rink, a theater with outstanding shows every night, and all the good food you can eat.

Christmas time at the Ludlow's is always full of food and family gatherings. We had our traditional dinner at own home Christmas Eve. After dinner we had a program including the Christmas story, singing of carols and watching Christmas slides and videos. That night the grandchildren opened one gift. It is always pajamas from Mama. The next morning we visited each of the childrens homes to see what Santa brought them for Christmas.

John and Tamara live in Omaha. John is the chief operations officer of an investment company. John is also the Sunday School President and Tamara is a ward missionary. Tammy also runs a house cleaning business. Zack is a ninth grader and plays soccer. Tyler is in the sixth grade and also is a soccer player. Teaghan is in the 11th grade and is a cheerleader for her school. They also have two dogs, four lizards and a bearded dragon.

Mark and Jana live in Omaha. Mark is a computer programmer and Jana is a full time mom and works part time for the Baby Gap. They have four children. Kesa (left) is the oldest and is in the seventh grade. Kassie is next and is a fifth grader. Kaden (left) is eight and he loves video games. Kaleb is the youngest and goes to pre-school. They are active in church where Jana is in the young women's program and Mark is on the scout committee.

Krissy and Jeff live in Duvall, Washington near Seattle. Jeff works as a project manager for a small Information Technology Company. They do computer projects on contract for various companies including Microsoft. Krissy is a full time mom. Nathan and Katie are in grade school and Jason turned two years old in June. Jeff and Krissy recently visited New York City on business. They are active in church were Jeff is the High Priests group leader and Krissy is the chior dirctor.

LeAnna and Jim with Austin. They live in Omaha were Jim works as a quality control officer for Schering-Plough, a pharmaceutical company. LeAnna is a marriage and family therapist. Austin will be two years old in January. Austin stays at our house every Monday while his mom works so we have been able to get to know Austin well. Jim is a primary teacher and LeAnna is the nursery leader.

On the back row left to right are: Teaghan is a cheerleader for Millard West High. Her football team won the state championship this year. Zack is a freshman at Millard West. He is an honor student and plays on a competition level soccer team. Tyler is in middle school and also plays soccer. Kesa is an honor student at Russell middle school.
On the bottom row are: Kassie is the tallest girl in her 5th grade class. Katie thinks she is a princess and is very smart. Austin is the youngest at 22 months. He is the only one with red hair. Kaden is 8 years old and about to be baptised. Nathan is 10 and is a video game junky and likes soccer and baseball. Jason is about 2 1/2 years old and can throw a football with a perfect spiril. Kaleb age 4 is in pre-school and loves trains and cars.

I am home from having my surgery. I am doing pretty well - able to handle the stairs, getting up and down, etc. It also gives me an opportunity to catch up on some of my projects - like updating the Ludlow Blog. Labor Day: We went to the park for breakfast and then we swam in the pool in the afternoon. That was the last time for swimming this season.

Karen's mother, Grace past away June 10th. We took our children and made a quick trip to Utah for the funeral. It was the first time in fifteen years that just our family (the six of us) has been together. We drove to SLC on Friday. The funeral was on Saturday. We visited with family on Sunday and then drove home on Monday. The funeral service was nice. Karen spoke, LeAnna sang and Krissy accompanied her on the piano. Karen was reunited with her three brothers. It was a great weekend to see our families and renew our friendship with them. We also found time to picnic at our old family spot at Moss Ledge in Mountains.

On Memorial Day, we had a family breakfast picnic at Walnut Grove Park. Karen made some yummy cimmamon rolls. The kids had a great time on the swings and slides. The weather was cloudy and cool so swimming was not part of our day.

We opened the pool May 17th. It looked like a vat of chocolate. Mark and Jim helped with the clean up. A week later the water is clean and clear. The water is still to cold for swimming.

In April, we went to Snowy Utah to see our parents and brothers. The next week we went on to Rainy Seattle to see Jeff and Krissy and family. The weather was not too bad in either place and we had a great time with our family and friends.
